Default Diesel #1(regular?) VS Diesel #2

I accidently put #2 diesel in my truck last weekend while returning home from a trip. The truck seems to run alright but feels under powered a little. On the way up I burned 1/2 a tank, used the rest while there then filled with the #2 and went home. Burned only 1/4 tank. Cost was about .10 cents cheaper / gal. also. What is the difference between #1 & #2? Will it damage anything?

#1 diesel is only needed in very cold temps. Where you getting that in the summertime? #2 is what is commonly used all the time except extreme cold.

Don't know the exact difference but #2 is what 95% of diesel pumps sell

I've been using the diesel sold at regular gas pumps which I believe is #1 year round but add conditoner in the winter. Have I been screwing up? #2 is prefered except in winter? I like using the regular pumps because I can always pay at the pump. Can't always do that at the big diesel pumps.

#1 has more karosine than #2 and has a higher gel point and #1 cost more... it is unusual to see #1 in the summer time but the farther north you go the more common it becomes.. but both are rated at 40 cetane and you shouldn't notice any difference in running them it could be the oooo crap feeling cause you did something different.

and the wind and many other factors could of caused the more fuel usuage on the way home... you can never judge just one tank

Here in Montana you can buy #2 50/50 or #1 anytime at about a third of the stations year round.

I have seen a decrease in mileage when running #1 in the past, but I must admit, it was a couple of year ago that I ran it in my SD. I had never ran it before until that winter when the truck gelled up on #2 w/ winter addititve. Ran straight #1 after that that winter and part of the next one (I sold it that winter). Last winter in my OBS I just ran #2 or a #2 50/50 blend w/ additive and had no issues.
