The IH kit as I recal has a "tool" for holding the adapter and a tube of IH RTV, but either way it's overpriced.

Just be careful you don't drop anything inside, job goes down hill in a real big hurry after that.

I just had the same problem show up on my 2000 7.3 Called the ford dealer up here and the guy laughed. He said the o-ring was 5 bucks and good luck with it.I thought of cleaning it up real good, putting some hightemp silicone on it ,tightening it up and hoping for the best.

wow you went digging to bring this old thread up lol
it can be changed but it is a sob to do. if you do try and patch it be sure to drain the motor oil and clean real well rtv it and go pray. after praying for 24 or so hours. refill with oil and it will most likely leak.

you can remove the dipstick and hold the brass deal with some good needle nose vicegrips and remove the large outter nut being careful not to drop the large brass deal into the pan. change oring and reverse of the above.

good luck

I just did mine this past weekend.
Definitely doable.
I'm out of town until Thursday, but I took a bunch of photos while doing it.

I will post the photos later.

Default Pix Finally

Sorry for the delay in posting the pictures.
But here you go.

Dipstick tube bracket nut, passenger side valve cover

View of dipstick flange

View with starter and dipstick removed

Close up of flange and nut. Goop is my 2006 attempt to fix this leak.

Part packages to fix the leak

Parts to fix the leak

Custom tool to hold the flange and prevent the Kaplop !
.45 caliber SS bore brush on a short rod. I taped a ziptie to make sure it did not drop.

Tool inserted into flange to check for tightness. Note flange nut is still on. I ended up tieing on a small nylon rope to the zipties just for piece of mind. It is a very tight fit.

Flange nut removed. You can see the remains of my previous "fix"

Close up
