Default Normal towing trans temp

I have a 96 f350 auto with a larger trans pan to help prevent over heating. Normally no matter what I never go over 180 degrees but today I noticed it didn't seem like my temp gauge was ever going to stop. It reached 270 and I decided to pull over. I was pulling about 12k trailer most of the day. Any ideas??

Sounds like you were slipping in some gear or your TC is in trouble.
Were you using overdrive?

I agree with Doug. Also once you get past about 210 with the big pan you can't cool it back down. BTS and John Wood both do not recommend using the deep pans.

I only turn overdrive off to climb hills and to get up to speed because overdrive is so low. The trans isn't slipping. I have a feeling it may be the gauge. I have the issipro ev2 gauges and it will go up to a high temperature and then I turn the truck off and back on and then it goes back to 190. Kinda weird.

Those ev2 gauges aren't the best I had that happen. Got the new gauge and now I never break 160.
